YOUTH COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Permanent / Part-time / Hourly FLSA: Non-Exempt

$20/hour

Average 10 hours/week, September through May, varying summer hours.

SUMMARY
This position serves under the general supervision of the Religious Educator, and in
collaboration with the Religious Exploration Coordinator, to provide consistent leadership for
activities and programs, to junior high school and senior high school youth. There are four youth
programs to be supported by this position: Middle School UU Group (MUUGs), Junior High Our
Whole Lives (OWL), 9th grade Coming of Age (COA), and the High School Group
(UUNIQUE). This part-time hourly position is for an average of 10 hours a week from
September through May and varying summer hours. The position requires attendance at the
Church on most Sunday mornings for 2 hours. The position also requires occasional evening
meetings, staff meetings, and attendance at youth activities on an as-needed basis throughout the
entire calendar year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Prepare and lead weekly Sunday morning Middle School youth group centering on age
appropriate Unitarian Universalist curricula
● Coordinate weekly High School youth group centering on goal creation, group bonding
and learning about spirituality and Unitarian Universalist history
● Coordinate youth programming with consideration of special programs including Coming
of Age and Our Whole Lives
● Assist with planning, implementing and leading additional monthly programs for each the
middle school and high school group
● Ensure the safety and well-being of the program participants
● Assist with promotion and development of information for the program
● Identify supplies needed for various activities
● Keeps parents informed and encourages parent participation
● Encourage positive inclusive relationships and an appreciation of differences
● Meet on a regular basis with the Religious Educator, and Minister as needed, to ensure
targeted performance
● Attend trainings and meetings as required
● Lead, coordinate and work alongside volunteer and paid teachers/youth advisors
● Coordinate participation in UUA Regional opportunities for youth in Coming of Age and
MUUGs.
● Coordinate Junior High Our Whole Lives program (with option to be trained facilitator)
● Coordinate gifts for COA and Senior Bridging Youth

● Work with Religious Educator and Minister to support youth worship, especially:
Coming of Age, Youth, and Bridging Worship

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
● Minimum age of 21
● High School Diploma or equivalent, and
● Experience working with age group under assignment
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Integrity, independence, initiative, dependability, flexibility, and judgment
● Working knowledge of Unitarian Universalism and willingness to teach everything under
the scope of the curricula
● Ability to work within a ministry framework and serve as a mentor and role model
● Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
● Work is in a normal church setting with occasional exposure to outside weather
conditions, and may involve the ability to participate in physical youth activities such as
hiking and camping.
● Occasional work may be conducted off site of the church campus
