Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis Pianist and Accompanist

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis is seeking a part-time Pianist and Accompanist.

 

The Accompanist serves the church by working with the Music Director and Senior Minister to select and play the music for worship, accompanying the choir, accompanying special groups and reporting directly to the Music Director.

 

The position is a staff position, requiring attendance at designated meetings and functions.

 

Terms of Employment:

Regular, part-time work for 52 weeks (average 10 hours per week)

4 weeks of leave by mutual agreement with the Music Director

Compensation of $15,000 for a one-year, part time, contract term

The position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (29 U.S. Code, Chapter 8, sections 201-219).

 

Employment Contract: The selected candidate will be granted a one-year contract, to be approved by the Board of Trustees, effective from the date of employment. The contract may be extended or amended by mutual agreement of the parties, or terminated for cause.

Minimum Qualifications:

College graduate, preferably with a degree in music or no less than 1 year experience in a similar capacity to this position.

Ability to play in a variety of musical styles

Understanding of music composition, transposition and arranging

Sight-reading of music and open score reading

Experience working with a wide variety of individuals with varying degrees of music experience and ability

Choral accompaniment experience

Pianist and Accompanist Duties:

Serve as accompanist at Sunday worship services on a weekly basis

Piano practice and/or rehearsal with guest musicians

Accompany choir during service on Sunday mornings and rehearsals on Thursday from 7:15-9pm.

Assist Music Director or Senior Minister (and other Ministers) in planning music, as appropriate

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Accompanies congregational singing at worship services and other appropriate church functions

Occasionally, accompany choir when it sings for special events.

 

Other Professional Opportunities:

Discretionary performance by invitation to perform in rites of passage, i.e.: Celebration of Life services weddings and other events. Accompanist charges for Rites of Passage and other events are set prior to the ceremony and are the exclusive property of the accompanist.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The choir season runs from the second Sunday in September through the second Sunday in June

Work normally performed in a typical church musical environment.
